Spring Loading Apple Event
Apple finally had their first event of 2021, they didn’t announce what I was hoping for, a new 16inch MacBook Pro. However, I’m not as disappointed because they did announce some pretty new iMac’s in SEVEN different colors. Plus some other things. I don’t get into too many technical details because I know the vast majority of you don’t care, you just want to know which option is the best for you or if something is even worth the upgrade. Lets dive into it.
AirTags (April 30th release) - Move over Tile, Apple has their own way of tracking your personal items now and there is no need for downloading another app. Everything works with the native Apple app “Find My”. AirTags have precision tracking, are lightweight and customizable. They come in a 1 and 4 pack for $29 and $99.
They’ll have accessories you can purchase, such as key chains and luggage tags that you can pace your AirTag in.
iMac (Late May Release) - The iMac is thinner and colorful! The thinnest iMac yet with the M1 chip and 24 inch, 4.5K retina display. They come in 3 different models with color coordinated keyboards and mouses. Starting at $1299. The price honestly seemed suspicious to me since they cost pretty much the same as iPad Pro’s. So I took a deeper look into things after the event was over. This is a powerful machine, but it’s not for everyone. If you do heavy film editing and excessive Photoshop style work, this probably isn’t the right computer for you. As it only comes in 8GB memory and 8 CPU/GPU as the maximum. Plus there’s a storage issue. The maximum storage is 512GB, I mean the iPad Pro’s have larger storage options… Do I still want one? Or course! 😂. For someone like me that does SOME video editing, not any heavy editing like movies and mainly use apps like Keynote, Pages, Pixelmator etc. It should be fine, I hope. But we’ll see when I get my hands on one to test out.
If you just want a stationary computer to get some work done on that doesn’t require large programs to accomplish or need something to add some color your office space then go for it, I support your purchase.
Definitely will need to go into a store and view the colors before ordering one.
iPad Pro (Late May Release) - It’s only been 13 months since the last iPad Pro was quietly released, I was a little upset because when I seen a new iPad instantly I thought, “my iPad is old”. I’m glad the exterior didn’t change, so I can live with my iPad being “old”. The iPad Pro also now has the M1 chip and spec improvements that really don’t mean too much for the average user. So, yes, save some money and get last years model, if you don’t do any heavy lifting on your devices. I use my iPad for more than average tasks and haven’t had any problems with the 2020 iPad Pro model.
There was also a white color released in the Magic Keyboard (the one that floats). Which honestly, I wouldn’t want at all because the original in black gets so dirty, the white will be impossible to keep clean. Except for, maybe lint will be less visible on the white, now that I think about it… hmmm 🤔
Apple TV 4K (Late May Release) - Some improvements here with picture quality and a better TV remote, but nothing where I feel like I need to rush out and upgrade all of my Apple TV’s. I will say though, If you don’t have an Apple TV, I would suggest getting one, the experience is just so much better than your Smart TV’s native setup. They always look very Android to me and my brain just cant process how to function the TV lol. Apple TV is just simpler. The new 4K TV starts at $179 or you can opt for the new HD version that will also ship with the new remote, that one is only $149. They did an excellent job repackaging the “turn your TV on and off from the Apple TV remote” feature. The current TV’s already did that, granted there was an extra step, they just simplified the process. Still nothing, that make me want to upgrade any of the 4 Apple TV’s we currently have. The picture quality isn’t that noticeable to me at least, I have one regular HD TV, two 4K ones and one 4th Gen., I don’t notice the difference at all. If pricing was keeping you from getting one because you thought 4K is what you HAD to have, get the cheaper HD version.
Pro Tip: If you want to look up to date or really want the power button feature and don’t want to dish out another $149 - $199, just buy the new remote for $59, the actual TV looks the exact same. No one will ever know!
Purple iPhone 12 (April 30th release) - Literally just a color addition to the iPhone 12 lineup. Not much else to say here.
