How To Define A Target Market

I did a little question sticker on my Instagram stories a few weeks ago and someone said they would like to learn more about “music marketing”. Honestly, don’t let an industry make marketing more difficult for you. Marketing is marketing, no matter what industry. The only difference is who you are targeting, that allows you to also figure out what mediums to use and aesthetic to convey your message. That’s when target avatars come into play, especially for digital marketing, which is what most of us are doing these days.

Essentially we are defining the type of individuals we want to reach. You have to dig deep into who you are targeting, you are basically targeting one person, but countless people on earth have the same traits and interests. So that one person you defined actually covers a large audience. It can be overwhelming to figure out where to begin when defining your target market. Don’t worry, I got you, I created a guide to help you define it. It is a step by step guide with lots of room for you to fill in each step. Each step has instructions, so that you’ll understand the process and be able to define each item with ease.

When you have your target avatars you are ready to plug the information into your ad platform. Since digital marketing is trial and error, there is space for up to three avatars, you can create more if you’d like.. You can start with all three avatars and monitor them to see which is performing the best and keep the best performing one on and turn off the other two off. You can also do one at a time and make tweaks until you’re happy with the results. There is no magic formula, it’s all trial and error, that’s why you have to constantly analyze the data and make tweaks.
