How The iPad Pro Changed My Life

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably saw me tweet about wanting an iPad for almost 6 months lol. About three weeks ago, while getting grocery at Costco, I decided to just put the iPad Pro 12.9inch and Apple Pencil 2nd Generation in my cart. When I tell you, best impulse decision of my life for an electronic, I mean it! Here’s why…

Before I made the purchase I was going through a rough patch, a lot going on in my personal life and that dragged into my work, I didn’t want to be anywhere near my laptop. I was in the worst creative rut I’ve ever been in. I couldn’t translate my ideas, I was tired of being stationary and feeling like I wasn’t actually creating with my own hands.

From the day I got my iPad, everything came back, I have been more creative. Most would think it’s because I have a new electronic, of course you’re going to want to use it. Sure, that maybe the case, but I have been working more efficiently and frequently as well. With the iPad, I feel like I’m actually creating something with more meaning. I can touch any part of my screen and feel hands on with my work. Whereas on a laptop, its a mouse doing everything. There’s just something about your finger or a pencil you’re holding to control things that just makes the creation process feel so much more real.

Many of the programs I use from Adobe are available for iPad, just waiting for Premier Pro… but Premier Rush helps me get the chunk of my editing done on the go then I do the fine tuning on my laptop with the full version of Premier. I have been able to cutdown on wasted time, when I’m on shoots, I am able to start editing photos while in traffic to the next location when I’m not the one driving. This way, I’m editing on their time and not mine when I get home ;).

It has made heavy workloads much easier as I can be on my laptop and iPad at the same time to complete tasks more efficiently. Since the files app works pretty much flawlessly, I am able to travel without lugging around my laptop. I’ll take my keyboard, some may say thats just as much bulk, but its not. The charger for the iPad is much smaller and you don’t have to have the keyboard out all of the time. The iPad is so much easier to take out during a flight, you can create almost anywhere. Plus the battery lasts the entire day, so when you’re running around, you dont need to worry about forgetting your charger at home, looking for an outlet or adding weight to your daily bag. It has also helped me go nearly paperless!

If you’ve been on the fence about the iPad Pro, get it. It’ll change your life and workflow for the better.

UPDATE:

A New iPad has released and I couldn’t help but upgrade to it. It’s almost the same as the older version, but has two cameras and a depth camera for AR. You can now even connect a mouse to it. So you can really make it a laptop when needed. You don’t have to upgrade your actual device, you can just upgrade the software and you’ll be able to connect a mouse, in addition to a keyboard.

Apple is releasing a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pros in May. Your iPad floats when attached and it has a fully backlit keyboard and a trackpad. The price point is a bit steep $299 for the 11 inch and $349 for the 12.9 inch and it does limit you the way you can position your iPad during use. You get more flexibility with the smart covers. I’m not sure if I’ll invest in it because I feel it’ll make the iPad feel too much like a laptop. I like the flexibility of connecting my keyboard and mouse only when I need it.

If you’re on the market for a new computer, definitely look into the iPad Pro, especially if you’re a student or creative. The flexibility you get with it is unmatched. There are a lot of apps that are amazing that you can use to further the functionality of your iPad, which I’ll do an app recommendation post soon, along with some other tricks.
